 Bagua Building (Eight Trigrams Building)

It is located at 43 Guxin Road, Kulangsu Island, and is now a major cultural heritage site protected at the national level. Built in 1907, the Bagua Building covers a total area of about 11,000 square metres and a floor area of about 5,800 square metres. The building is in western classical revival style on a rectangular plane. The centre section of each side consists of a colonnade with giant Tuscan columns. There are corridors forming a cross shape inside the building. On each storey surrounding the central octagonal hall below the octagonal dome is an open corridor. The roof is raised layer by layer to form the octagonal shape and red octagonal dome. Being the largest and tallest villa on Kulangsu, the Bagua Building stands as a landmark on Kulangsu, witnessing the construction activities of Taiwan compatriots in Kulangsu and the exchanges between the East and the West in the first half of the 20th century. It is now the Kulangsu Organ Museum.
