As a National Famous Historical and Cultural City, Fuzhou city in Fujian Province has numerous ancient houses and historical and cultural buildings. To prepare for the 44rd session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee to be held in Fuzhou, the city launched a new round of initiatives for the protection and promotion of ancient houses based on their characteristics. Among the 211 ancient houses protection and promotion projects in 91 categories, 122 projects have been completed.

Fuzhou has continued to promote the protection and activation of ancient houses, and successively launched a number of historical and cultural blocks such as the Three Lanes and Seven Alleys, Shangxiahang Historical and Cultural Block and Aofengfang in areas where ancient houses are concentrated in recent years. This has realized the integration of the protection of ancient houses and the improvement of people's livelihood and urban and rural construction, and the quality of the city has been greatly improved.
