Xiadang Township

Xiadang Township is located on the boundary of Fuijan Province and Zhejiang Province. It was established as a township in 1988, covering 70 square kilometers. It has 10 administrative villages. Xiadang Township is the remotest township in Shouning County, so it is also called Siberia of Eastern Fujian. During President Xi Jinping’s work in Fujian, he visited Xiadang Township three times, which left him an impressive memory for the tough life there. In recent years, with the support and care of Party committees and governments at all levels, Xiadang Township strived to develop agriculture based on its reality, and initiate the first visible custom tea plantation for poverty relief in China, which plant tea, naval orange, Castanea Henryi and moso bamboo over 10 thousand mu (approximately equal to 1,647 acre). Committed to writing a Xiadang Legend, it has planned and implemented 31 projects to explore new landmarks of red tourism in China. It designed learning activities including revisiting the long march road, reviewing the history, giving a Party lecture, holding a ceremony and talking at night. It spares no effort to become the model of CPC’s work style, the school of mass line, and practice base of poverty relief.

Luanfeng Bridge: Located at the end of Xiadang Village in Xiadang Township, its surrounding environment is well protected. The bridge was first built in the Ming Dynasty rebuilt in the fifth year of Emperor Jiaqing of the Qing Dynasty (1800) and repaired in 1965. The bridge is 47.6 meters long and 4.9 meters wide. It’s from north to south, with slightly curved bridge deck. The bridge house has four columns and nine purlins with bucket structure, 17 bays and 72 columns, and is covered with double-pitch roof. The South abutment is built with long stones on the rocks, and the North abutment is chiseled with cliffs. It is extremely dangerous. The bridge deck is 17.2 meters away from the water surface in the stream. It is one of the dangerous bridges in Southeast China. The arch span is 37.6 meters, the longest in China. It is a rare wooden arch bridge in China. In 2006, it was announced as a national key cultural relics protection site. In 2012, it was included in the preliminary list of China’s world cultural heritage.
