Wells of Five Saints

Wells of Five Saints

Wells of Five Saints (Wukou) are located in Wufuli Alley, Wuyi Village, Wufu Town. The date of the excavation is no longer to be traced. Such contents are vivid to see as “Rebuilt in the fourth year of Yongzheng”, “Funded for dig by Wang Youjie in the autumn of the 19th year of Emperor Wanli in the Ming Dynasty”. Wells of Five Saints was named in honor of five saints of Family Hu, namely Hu Anguo, Hu Xian, Hu Hong, Hu Yin, and Hu Ning. They are all rated as “literati and officialdoms” and are called “five saints” by local residents. Thanks to the outstanding achievements and status of the five saints of Family Hu, later generations named the five wells as “Wells of Five Saints”. In December 2014, the People’s Government of Wuyishan City announced it as among the ninth batch of cultural relics protection sites.
