Sakyamuni Pagoda

Dating as early as about the 1st year of Qiandao of the Southern Song Dynasty (1165), the octagonal five-layered stone structure is of a pavilion-style in wood, hollow, 30.6m in height, standing over 256 square meters. Perched on the Sumeru-style pedestal, its first level has both doors to the east and west, with Buddhist niches set on 6 sides, while the second to fifth levels, four doors with four niches. All layers are adorned with uplifting eaves, lending an ethereal feel. Its body is packed with generous carvings of decorative patterns, with its porch and balusters engraved with designs of guardian warriors, arhats, Bodhisattvas, flying Apsaras, together with phoenixes, lions, flowers and grass. In 1988, it entered the third batch of national key cultural relic protection sites.
